The Teatro alla Scala di Milano<\/strong> (Teatro alla Scala di Milano<\/em> in Italian), more often simply referred to as La Scala<\/strong>, is one of the most famous theaters in the world, designated as the \u201ctemple of opera\u201d since the performances of Toscanini<\/strong> between 1898 and 1908.
Its fame is tied as much to the architecture of its sublime interior as to the famous artists who performed there, such as Verdi, Bellini, Puccini or Rossini. <\/span>It is one of the three most prestigious opera houses in Italy along with La Fenice in Venice and San Carlo in Naples.<\/span><\/p>\n

Presentation<\/span><\/h2>\n

Its facade stands on the elegant Piazza della Scala<\/strong>, in the center of which stands a statue representing Leonardo da Vinci, separated from the Piazza Duomo by the arcades of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Facing the theater is the Palazzo Marino, which houses Milan’s city hall dating from the 16th century, with a 19th-century facade. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

It was built between 1776 and 1778. On this occasion, the old Gothic church <\/span>Santa Maria della Scala<\/span><\/strong> was destroyed. It had been erected in 1381 in honor of <\/span>Beatrice Regina della Scala<\/span><\/strong>, wife of <\/span>Bernab\u00f2 Visconti.<\/span><\/strong>
Nowadays, the theater hosts important cultural events, operas, ballets and classical music concerts. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The best way to discover La Scala is of course to attend a performance, but the sumptuous interior is worth at least a simple visit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

La Scala Theater Museum<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Adjacent to the theater, the <\/span>La Scala Theater Museum<\/span><\/strong> (Museo Teatrale alla Scala) holds a collection of paintings, musical instruments, costumes and objects related to lyric opera. It originated from <\/span><\/span>the purchase of the prestigious collection of theater objects of the antiquarian Jules Sambon.
There are in particular the original scores of the greatest Italian lyric works.<\/p>\n
