The Moncalieri Castle<\/strong> is another of the Savoy royal residences, in the surroundings of Turin. At the top of the village of Moncalieri, it was built in the 17th century by enlarging a medieval fortress.
The palace was several times the residence of sovereigns and nobles, including Emmanuel Philibert and Charles Emmanuel I, who decided to enlarge it, calling in over several decades great architects such as Amedeo di Castellamonte, Andrea Costaguta and Carlo Morello.
With the restorations of the early 19th century, the staircase with three flights in Carrara marble was built. In 1831, Charles Albert of Savoy established his residence there. After the Second World War it became the seat of the first battalion of carabinieri of Piedmont.
A great fire destroyed in 2008 a keep and the royal apartments, and the castle was closed to the public until 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n

Today, on the ground floor you can visit the apartments of Maria Letizia with their 18th-century ceilings, the beautiful reception room, the princess’s bedroom with a large neo-Louis XVI style service and the Chinese Cabinet.
The staircase of honour leads to the piano nobile with the apartment of Victor Emmanuel II and his wife Marie Adelaide of Habsburg-Lorraine, including the Queen’s Salon with its rosewood decorations, the queen’s bedroom, the king’s private lavatories, or the elegant 18th-century royal chapel.<\/p>\n
