Alberobello

Tourism has developed considerably in Apulia, particularly thanks to its beautiful beaches in Gargano, its Tremiti Islands and the charms of Salento.
This region is often represented through a unique architectural feature, with the Trulli of the Itria Valley, small cone-roofed houses built in the 16th century.

There you can discover magnificent edifices such as the cathedrals of Bitonto, Trani and Bari, or the exceptional castle of Castel del Monte in Andria. Baroque architecture is highly refined, not only in Lecce, but throughout the Salento. The Itria Valley stands out with its many villages and Trulli houses, of which Alberobello has the largest concentration.
Bari is the most important city in the region, famous for its Basilica of Saint Nicholas and its historic centre, the Borgo antico.
The region is rich in archaeological sites and traces of the ancient peoples who inhabited it, from Brindisi to Lecce, such as the excavations and museum of Egnazia. Many permanent exhibitions describe the era of Magna Graecia, when the Greeks colonised the region, as at the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto.
Among the many curiosities, let us mention the Castellana caves, the Fasanolandia African Zoo, which is the largest park in Italy where animals roam free, or the charming all-white village of Ostuni.
