Susa

The region of Piedmont is located in the north-west of Italy. It is largely dominated by the Alpine mountains, while agricultural plains stretch through the centre and towards the east in the Po Valley. To the south rise hills and vineyards.

Its natural heritage thus includes many mountain areas with their peaks, ski resorts, nature parks such as that of Gran Paradiso, or Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta. On the other hand, towards the south-east vineyards cover the beautiful hills of the Langhe, Roero and Montferrat.
The historical heritage is varied, with above all castles and residences of the Dukes of Savoy. Many fortresses, major religious sanctuaries, or pretty villages also intersect, 13 of which are classified among the “most beautiful villages in Italy”. Each of the many valleys has its own charm, such as the Susa Valley to the west or the Ossola Valley to the north.
Regional capital, Turin is a major economic city thanks to the historic industries of its region. It is indeed home to the headquarters of large companies such as FIAT, Lavazza, Olivetti in Ivrea, or Ferrero in Alba.
Despite an old depreciated image of an industrial city, it has become a pleasant city. The centre develops around harmonious squares, embellished with historic cafés, galleries, churches, Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings. An important heritage is also preserved in its museums such as the vast Royal Museums and the Egyptian Museum.

Piedmont also possesses a gastronomic heritage, with in particular a production of very good wines and truffles.
