Italy has been the world’s leading wine producer for several years, ahead of France, with more than 400 grape varieties authorized at the appellation level.
There is a resurgence of national grape varieties compared to so-called international varieties, even though the enthusiasm for Chardonnay is not waning.
Among the red grape varieties, we can mention Nebbiolo, the best red grape variety at the origin of Barolo, and Sangiovese, which is found in particular in Chianti Classico.
