Padua is a very beautiful city whose architecture and artistic treasures are essentially marked by the medieval and Renaissance periods.
In the Middle Ages it was the capital of Veneto, known for its important university founded in 1222, which is still an important university today.
This city was the origin of an important Renaissance movement, whose historic centre is a legacy.
The Scrovegni Chapel built in 1303 is decorated with magnificent frescoes by Giotto, considered the greatest masterpiece of the master.
The other most remarkable building is the Basilica of Saint Anthony, which has long attracted many pilgrims.
You can also discover its beautiful squares, such as Piazza delle Erbe or the immense Prato della Valle, its 16th-century cathedral whose plans Michelangelo is said to have drawn, with its 12th-century baptistery decorated with frescoes by Giusto de’ Menabuoi, the Palazzo della Ragione, etc.
